We are seeking motivated and experienced Rating Surveyors to join our fast-growing Business Rates department — the largest and one of the most successful teams within CPRA. With a strong reputation for delivering ethical, evidence-led results, we support clients across the UK in navigating the Check–Challenge–Appeal process and achieving fair, accurate rateable values.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of two years’ dedicated rating experience gained within the Valuation Office Agency or a reputable private-sector practice. You will be confident working independently, managing your own caseload, and providing clear updates to our London headquarters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of 100–300 live rating cases across a variety of sectors and property types.
  • Prepare and submit Check, Challenge and Appeal cases with high levels of technical accuracy.
  • Negotiate reductions in rateable value on behalf of clients.
  • Attend Valuation Tribunal hearings where required (full support provided).
  • Produce detailed interim and final reports for clients and senior management.
  • Maintain excellent communication and record-keeping throughout each case.
  • Uphold CPRA’s ethical, evidence-driven standards at all times.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in business rates/rating valuation.
  • Background with the VOA or a recognised rating consultancy.
  • Strong technical understanding of valuation principles and rating legislation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Professional, organised, and client-focused approach.
  • RICS membership preferred but not essential for entry-level applicants; support available.

What We Offer

  • Competitive remuneration depending on experience and contract type.
  • Flexible working arrangements (full-time, part-time, or consultancy).
  • Ongoing training and mentorship from highly experienced RICS-chartered surveyors.
  • Support from our dedicated administration team.
  • A strong pipeline of work from national clients across multiple sectors.
  • Opportunities for progression as the department continues to grow.
